Edwin Richard Carpenter, Jr. EDWIN RICHARD CARPENTER, JR.Email: pgc2001@vatemplars.comRight Eminent Grand Commander2001-2002 Ed was born on August 7, 1941, in Elizabethtown, Essex County, New York, the son of the late Edwin Richard Carpenter and Lucille Lamson Carpenter. He graduated from High School with honors and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served tour of duty in both the U. S. and Germany, with the Corps of Engineers. He was honorably discharged in 1965, having served six and on-half years on active duty. Ed and his wife, Sharon, have been married for thirty-one years and have five children and eight grandchildren. Ed has over thirty years in the construction industry as a carpenter. He is a member of Local 1665 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (Carpenter’s Union). After twenty years in the union, Ed attended paralegal school and after graduation, worked in the Circuit Court of the City of Alexandria for four years. Ed and Sharon are members of St. George’s United Methodist Church in Fairfax. Ed’s Masonie memberships are listed below. Ed follows in a long tradition in Freemasonry as his father, both grandfathers, a great grandfather, and four uncles were Masons. One of his sons is also a member of the Craft. (Gerry) Locher, Jr. was born August 14, 1989, in Roanoke, Virginia, the son of the late Baldwin G. and Lawton Fox Locher, both of them setting a positive example of what a person should do throughout their life. He grew up near Glasgow, and now lives near Lexington. He is married to Elizabeth Aiken Locher, a native of North Carolina, and they have three children. After attending country schools and prep school, Gerry enlisted in the Marine Corps. Since 1959, he has worked in family-related businesses involving farming, real estate and mining. Gerry is a member of R. E. Lee Memorial Episcopal Church and serves as a Lay Reader, Chalice, and Lay Eucharistic Minister. For 18 years, he served as Chairman of the Acolytes. He is Troop Committee Chairman of Boy Scouts of America Troop 29. In connection with his business, Gerry is a member of the Committee for the Farm Service Agency, U. S. Department of Agriculture, as well as a member of the Executive Committee for 4-H. Among his other activities, Gerry is a Past President of the Rockbridge Volunteer Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution, and is also a Past Senior President of the Rockbridge Volunteer Chapter, Children of the American Revolution. He is also a foxhunter and a Past. President of the Rockbridge Hunt. Benjamin Franklin Hill BENJAMIN FRANKLIN HILLEmail: pgc2019@vatemplars.comGrand Commander2019-2020 Benjamin F. Hill was born March 2, 1944 in Houston, Texas. He was the son of Benjamin F. Hill of Jennings, Louisiana, and Jane W. Cade of Houston, Texas (both deceased); he had five younger brothers and sisters-one brother is deceased, and his two sisters and two brothers live in Houston, Texas. He was educated in the public schools graduating May 1963 and enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in June 1965. He went through the ranks to Gunny Sergeant (E7), commissioned a Warrant Officer in January 1977, and appointed a Limited Duty Officer on May 1980 with Intelligence and Operational specialties. His combat duties were with the Third Battalion, Fourth Marines (3/4) and the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group (MAC-SOG). After a distinguishable career as a Tactical/Strategic Intelligence and Counterintelligence Officer, he retired on July 1983. He earned a Bachelor of Science with a major in Management and minor in Economics from Maryland University in 1988. He entered Graduate School at Golden Gate University and was awarded a Master of Public Administration Degree in Administrative Organization and Management Science August 26, 1989. After retiring from the United States Marine Corps, he was employed as a senior Defense Intelligence Agency civilian at the United States Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, Virginia, where he was the Deputy Chief of Intelligence Plans, Policy, Programs & Resources Directorate and the Chief of Intelligence Policy & Strategic Planning Division. A forward thinker, innovative manager with a practical approach to analysis, he reduced complex issues to understandable terms. Often recognized for his professional knowledge, leadership and strong team-building skills, he retired in December 2009 and was presented the Joint Distinguished Civilian Service Award by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for his distinguishable service to the Department of Defense. Sir Knight Hill is results-oriented, takes initiative, makes decisions, and accepts responsibility. Joel David Ratliff, Sr. JOEL DAVID RATLIFF, SR.Email: pgc2018@vatemplars.comGrand Commander2018-2019 Sir Knight Joel David Ratliff, Sr., was born in Dallas Texas on November 15. He was the older of two children of Ruth Spillman and Marshall Ratliff. He graduated from Bryan Adams High School in 1969 and after graduation was selected as the first Dallas Police Cadet for the Dallas Police Department. He graduated from the Dallas Police Academy in 1971 and worked for the Dallas Police department as a patrolman. Sir Knight Ratliff, Sr, enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1973 and served in law enforcement as a Security Policeman retiring after 20 years. His worldwide assignments included Air Force Bases in Florida, England, Greece, Turkey, Thailand, and Washington DC. He attended El Centro College, Texas Christian College and University of Maryland overseas accumulating over 110 credit hours in Criminal Justice and American History. He also worked as a personal security guard for the director of the Strategic Defense Initiative Star Wars Project. The final assignment of his career was on the security team for Air Force One. After his career in the Air Force he worked for the US Postal Service retiring after 13 years. Sir Knight Ratliff was made a master mason at Oxon Hill Lodge No. 231, Maryland, on October 28th, 1985. His father who was a member of Gibraltar No. 1179, Dallas Texas, raised him to the sublime degree of master mason. He was exalted in Hiram Chapter No. 45, Royal Arch Masons, Front Royal Virginia. He was Knighted August 6th, 2002, in Winchester Commandery No. 12, Winchester, Virginia, He served as Worshipful Master in 2009 receiving the Outstanding Worshipful Master award. He served as District Deputy Grand Master in 2013, where he also received the Outstanding District Deputy Grand Master Award from the Grand Master, Sir Knight Ratliff, served as High Priest of his Chapter a total of five years. He was also the District Deputy Grand High Priest in 2010 and Worshipful Master of Virginia Research Lodge 1777. In 2015 he served as Eminent Commander of Winchester No. 12 and District Deputy Grand Commander of the 4th Chivalric District in 2008. He is a member of numerous lodges in Virginia, Maryland and Texas. He is a life member of Almas Shrine in Washington, DC., a charter member of Widows Son R.A. Brazen Pillar Chapter and holds numerous awards and recognition from several Masonic bodies, to include, Knight Commander of the Temple, DeMolay Legion of Honor, Daniel Carter Beard Award, Knight York Cross of Honor, Order of the Purple Cross, Samsar Jewel Award (Shrine), Knight Commander Court of Honor (Scottish Rite). He is married to the former Sandra Jean West. They have a blended family of three daughters and four sans (two Master Masons and two grandsons and three granddaughters.

John Jeffrey McClelland

John Jeffrey McClelland was born on the Naval Air Station at Corpus Christi, Texas September 25, 1944, to Major (USMC) John Finley and Jean Elizabeth McClelland. He is the eldest child and has three sisters. His father and grandfather were Masons. He attended elementary and secondary schools in Lynchburg, VA. After which he attended Loyola University of the South in New Orleans, LA, where he majored in Political Science and played intercollegiate basketball. S.K. Jeff married the former Margaret Pamela (Pam) Brook, daughter of Admiral (Ret.) Charles B. and Margaret “Mimi” Brook, of Mclean, VA. They have five children and twelve grandchildren. They retired in 2007 to Jamaica, VA, where they had owned a cottage for thirty-seven years and built their retirement home. They are members of Christ Church Episcopal Parish, Saluda, VA where Pam served as Senior Warden for two years and S. K. Jeff is a Past President of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. S.K. Jeff was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965, attended OCS, received a commission as a 2LT and rose to the rank of Captain. He spent two tours of duty in Vietnam receiving two Bronze Stars for Valor, two Vietnamese Crosses of Gallantry, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Civic Action Honor Medal, and the Purple Heart. Wounds that he received eventually led to the end of his military career. After leaving his country’s service, he entered the hospitality industry where he worked for the next thirty-five years. He became an executive Chef and advanced to Regional Vice President of a Hotel Company before retiring in 2007. One of Jeff’s assignments during his career was to open the first American managed hotel in Moscow, Russia, USSR where he and Pam lived for two years. Following his retirement, he was called out of retirement for temporary assignments as a Hotel General Manager thirteen times over the next five years. His wife, Pam, retired after a career spanning thirty years as an elementary school principal. Peter Spring was “Initiated into his Grandfather’s Lodge: Haymarket Lodge No.6271 at Grand Lodge, London, aged 21 – in 1977. “Passed” on February 11th, 1978 and “Raised” on May 13th, 1978. He became a Royal Arch Mason in 1979, joining the Haymarket Chapter No.6271 in London. Peter became a Founder Member of Regency Lodge No.9434 on October 23rd, 1991, becoming its Worshipful Master in 1996. His Father and Brother became the Lodge’s first two Inidates. He immigrated to the United States on September 1st, 2003 to marry his Lady, Sherry Ann, on October 13th of that year. Peter became a United States Citizen in 2008. He became a joining member of both Yorktown Lodge No.205 and Warrick Chapter No.80 in February and March of 2009 respectively. Peter went on to be Knighted a Knight Templar on August 29th, 2009, becoming a member of Hampton Commandery No.17 and a joining member of Portsmouth Commandery No.5. Joined the Scottish Rite, in the Valley of Newport News, and became 32deg on April 24th, 2010. He became a Member of Hampton Roads York Rite Sovereign College No.95, on May 15th, 2010, becoming its Pre-Eminent Governor in 2015. Became a member of Emerald Isle Council No.30 on August 28th, 2010, becoming its Excellent Chief in 2014. In 2011, S.K. Peter became the Eminent Commander of Hampton Commandery No.17, while holding the office of Senior Warden of Portsmouth Commandery No.5. In 2012 he was appointed Eminent Grand Marshal for Virginia (a position he held for three years and also District Deputy Grand Commander for District No.2. In 2012 S.K. Peter also became a member of the Sovereign Order of Knights Preceptor and joined the Commemorative Order of St Thomas of Acon No.87, and a member of the Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests, joining Garden of Gethsemane No.2. During 2013, S.K. Peter was presented with the Grand Commandery Achievement Award, by the Grand Commander and was also presented with the Gold Honor Award by the York Rite Sovereign College of North America. In 2014 S.K. Peter Reginald Spring was made a “Knight Commander of The Temple”, by The Grand Encampment, Knights Templar of the United States of America. May 2015 saw him elected to the office of Grand Warder, of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of Virginia. In 2016 Peter became a member of St Thomas Conclave of the Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine and also a joining member of Kecoughtan Royal Arch Chapter No.42 2018 saw Sir Knight Peter Reginald Spring receive the highest honor from the York Rite Sovereign College of North America – The Order of the Purple Cross. Having become a Past High Priest of Kecoughtan Chapter No.42, (fulfilling the Virginia. requirements of the three positions in the East.) Peter was elected to the Rose of Sharon Priory No.2 – Knights of the York Cross of Honor, in 2019. In 2021 Sir Knight Peter was elected Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Virginia. At this time, he was also made a Knight of York Grand Cross of Honor and received the Honorary title of “Legion of Honor” from DeMolay International for services to that Order. By virtue of his office as Grand Commander, SK Peter was made a Governor on the Board of the Masonic Home of Virginia. Wigglesworth, Jr., was born September 2, 1936, in Bowling Green, Virginia. His father was John R. Wigglesworth, Sr., and his mother was Dorothy M. (Barlow) Wigglesworth. He is married to Mary P. Wigglesworth and they have four children. two sons (one deceased) and two daughters, and three grandchildren. After graduating from Caroline High School, Sir Knight Wigglesworth attended George Washington University before entering the United States Air Force in 1956. Upon discharge from the Air Force, he was employed by Washington Gas Light Company and after thirty-three years of service, retired in 1994 as Manager in the Distribution Department.  Sir Knight Wigglesworth lives in Falls Church, Virginia, and is presently a member of Christian Fellowship Church. During the past thirty-eight years in the Falls Church area he has held numerous positions of leadership within the Church. He has served as an adult leader in Cub Scouts. Job’s Daughters and DeMolay. Sir Knight Wigglesworth was raised a Master Mason in Arlington Centennial Lodge No. 81 in September 1969, exalted a Royal Arch Mason in Triangle Royal Arch Chapter No. 73 in November 1969 and Knighted in Arlington Commandery No. 29 in November 1969. Piedmont Commandery No. 26

Piedmont Commandery No. 26 Chartered October 26, 1916 The Commandery was formed at Cochran Lodge, The Plains, under a different name and number (Charter is on the wall at Cochran). It remained at Cochran for many years, into at least the 70’s when it relocated to Hay Market Lodge. It stayed there through at least the late 80s, but then moved to Manasseh Lodge. From the Commandery, several others have served as elected or appointed Grand Officers of the Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons and the Grand Commandery of Virginia. Several of those listed above are previous presiding officers of: The Grand Council, Allied Masonic Degrees of the USA; the Grand Council, Knight Masons of the USA; the York Rite Sovereign College of North America; the Great Priory, Knight York Cross of Honour and the Grand College, Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priests.
